Visiting Ireland's Monuments Responsibly
Private land, permission, safety and respect at monuments, holy wells and ancient sites in Ireland.

Most of Ireland's monuments are on private farmland. A site on ErinSites does not mean there is a right of way or public access.
- Ask the landowner for permission before crossing fields; close gates and keep dogs on a lead near livestock.
- Do not climb on walls, dig, move stones or use metal detectors: monuments are protected under the National Monuments Acts.
- Holy wells are living places of devotion: leave offerings and rags as you find them.
- Take care at cliff-top promontory forts, caves and waterfalls; never enter a wild cave without the right equipment and local knowledge.
